Caption-Abstract: The full moon reflects light from the sun, so if you leave the shutter open long enough, a night picture will simply look like daytime. In this photo of the general store in Bodie California State Park, a 90 minute exposure at f8 @ 50mm does it. The one difference in lighting, however, is that the moving moon will "fill in" the harsh shadows that would otherwise be cast by a bright sun in a single snapshot. What's more, the interiors of buildings were artificially lit with a flashlight "painting" the walls for several minutes. -- One more thing to note about Full Moon photography with extended exposures: no star trails. Because the moon is reflected sunlight, the light of the stars are diluted by the moonlight, just as in daylight. While shorter exposure times will yield more star trails, they will also be proportionally shorter. To get star trails, shoot when there is no moon.
